Guardian Media Group

responsibility -> working with the community

The greatest influence that GMG has on the community - locally, nationally and internationally - is through the pages of its newspapers and websites, and through its other media properties.

The Group also meets its responsibilities through a large number of charitable, educational and local community-based initiatives. Here are some examples.

The Scott Trust Foundation, an umbrella organisation for the Trust's charitable activities, oversees: the Guardian Foundation, which supports the creation of independent newspapers overseas; the Newsroom Visitor Centre and Archive, which runs free education workshops and other events; the Scott Trust Charitable Fund, which supports projects associated with independent journalism, journalistic ethics, media literacy and journalism training

As well as backing national and international causes in its newspapers, Guardian News & Media supports schools and charities by channelling volunteers, funding and expertise into long-term partnerships. GNM's flagship project is a collaboration with Elizabeth Garrett Anderson school (EGA), a large inner-city girls' school in Islington, London.

The other divisions - GMG Regional Media, GMG Radio and Trader Media Group - organise and support a range of community initiatives, and leverage their resources and reach to benefit numerous good causes. Examples include fundraising efforts such as the Kirsty Appeal for a local children's hospice, for which the Manchester Evening News was named Community Newspaper of the Year, and the Radio division's Bring a Pound to Work day, which has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for beneficiaries such as Sheffield Children's Hospital

The Group's businesses frequently partner with charities and other organisations to suport good causes. Trader Media Group's partnership with Whizz Kidz, for example, helps the charity provide specialised mobility equipment for disabled children
