Just as the provincial Manchester Guardian grew to become a national presence, the Guardian.co.uk website has taken the journalism of a national newspaper to a global audience.
The Scott Trust was created to ensure the continuity of the Guardian and its liberal journalism. The international audience delivered by Guardian.co.uk has brought a new goal within reach: for the Guardian to become the world’s leading liberal voice.
In October 2008 the Trust was replaced by a new, limited company - "The Scott Trust Limited". The purpose of this change was to strengthen further the protection the Trust offers the Guardian. The core purpose and values of the Trust were unchanged.
